ROYAL IMPROVISERS ORCHESTRA
Yedo Gibson of the Royal Improvisers Orchestra announces, "My story is quite simple…" Living in São Paulo, his waking and sleeping hours were filled with a constant big city noise. For him, "it was inevitable to turn it in to music….and as any third world citizen I had to improvise every day and that is what happen to my [music]."
Gibson chuckles as he recalls putting up at advertisement at the Conservatory of Music, " Royal Improvisers Orchestra is looking for musicians". Perhaps allured more by the "Royal" than the "Improvisers" of the title, to his kind amusement, his call attracted over twenty classical and baroque musicians. While only six lasted the entire first rehearsal - those who did flourished. The RIO now boasts 19 talented artists from around the world - as Yedo describes, "from completely individual angels of music with musicians from Baroque to Punk Noise but with the same passion the improvisation."
The RIO has developed its very own conducting technique. It's great - all orchestra members take turns in conducting, using 30 pre-arranged hand signs. All are equal. The musicians work freely, yet closely, communicating constantly with eachother, and the audience.
